Join the Red Group as we explore the Silver Divide near Lake Edison, in the John Muir Wilderness. This is on the west side of the Sierra crest and north of Kings Canyon National Park. The trip starts and ends at Lake Edison. Packhorses will carry our gear to our first destination. The next day we backpack to Lower Graveyard Lake where we will enjoy 2 layover days. Our next destination is Devil’s Bathtub Lake, where we will have one layover day. This is one of the largest lakes we will have ever visited. Despite the unusual place names this will be one of the Red Group’s most scenic trips and the highest. The Silver Divide is a spectacular ridge with alpine lakes near timberline. We will spend several days camped just below 10,000 feet. Our campsites will be at the base of 11,000 foot peaks. We will have scenic views of the Dinkey Wilderness off to the south and several peaks above 12,000 and 13,000 feet peaks just north of Kings Canyon National Park. On layover days there will be optional hikes to alpine meadows, and lakes and views of the high country. The use of packhorses on the first day will add approximately $70 to the cost of the trip.
